Why 우리 for everything?

우리 엄마, 우리 집, 우리나라... even 우리 남편?? In my language saying "our husband" would cause a very awkward conversation. I read it comes from group culture, but I'd love to hear how Koreans actually feel about this word. Honestly it's kind of beautiful once you get used to it.
